Tolstedt of Bismarck, N.D.; grandfather of Molly, Betsy, Mark and Ross, brother of Mrs. Hayes Mitchell of Elgin, Ill. Funeral services Wed., 3:30 p.m., from the Schmidt & Bartelt Funeral Home, 5050 W. Vliet st., to Valhalla cemetery. In state after 4 p.m. Tues. Memorials to Beloit college or Grand Avenue Congregational church preferred.

Mathematics Teacher Dies

Walter C. Candy

Walter C. Candy, 71, head of the mathematics department of Washington high school for 41 years, died Sunday at the veterans hospital at Wood, of heart disease.

Mr. Candy taught and headed the mathematics department at Washington from 1921 until his retirement in 1962. He was a guidance counselor there for 15 years. He held all offices of the Milwaukee High School Mathematics club and was treasurer of the mathematics section of the Wisconsin Education association.

A native of Rock Grove, Ill., Mr. Candy was graduated with honors from Beloit college in 1916. He served in the army in France in World War I.

He was a former board member and clerk of Grand Avenue Congregational church. He was a member of Beloit College Alumni council, Turtle Mound society, a national scholastic honor group, and Tau Kappa Epsilon.

Survivors include his wife, Bertha; a daughter, Mrs. G.E. Tolstedt, Bismarck, N.D., and a sister, Mrs. Hayes Mitchell, Elgin, Ill.
