CALLED HOME
MRS. LEVI CANDY CALLED FROM ALL EARTHLY CARES.
Again that grim reaper has taken another from among the living to the world from which no traveler ever
returns.
The victim – this time was Mrs. Levi Candy, of Dakota township, who met death without a struggle on last
Thursday afternoon. She was a sufferer of an abscess of the bowels, and just before her death she talked with
entire consciousness.
The deceased, daughter of John and Elizabeth Emrick, was born in Walker township, Center county, Penn.,
April 26, 1819, and died April 9, 1891, aged 71 years, 11 months and 3 days. She was united in marriage to
Levi Candy of Center county, Pa., March 11, 1841. They lived a peaceful life for over half a century before being
separated.
In the fall of 1864 they emigrated to Illinois and lived one year with Mr. Candy’s brother Samuel and then moved
to their present residence. She leaves to mourn her death a husband, two brothers, two sisters, two daughters and
one son, besides a host of friends.
For many years she was an earnest member of the Lutheran church and was well prepared to meet her lot when
the final summons came. On Sunday the remains were quietly but sadly borne to the Rock Grove cemetery and
there laid to rest until the morning of the resurrection.
The funeral solemnities were conducted by Revs. Wetzell and Finley.
