The Funeral of Mrs. Candy

The funeral of Mrs. John Candy will be held from her late home in Dakota at 1 o’clock on Saturday, the service following at 1:30 in the Presbyterian church. Interment will be in the Dakota cemetery.

Rock Grove

Word came to relatives here of the death of Mrs. John Candy of Dakota, but a resident of this place many years. She was stricken Monday and only lived a few days. Her son Rev. Frank Candy with her daughter, Mrs. Nellie Mitchell, was with their mother. Her youngest son is in France, so Walter will find a sad home coming. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Long, Jay Bolender and wife, Mrs. David Bolender, attended the funeral at Dakota on Saturday.

…Miss Ida Hass came out from Freeport Saturday to attend the funeral of Mrs. Candy….

Mrs. John Candy passed away at her home in this village Thursday morning at 1 o’clock as the result of apoplexy which she received on Monday afternoon. Mrs. Candy was daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Gochnaur, early esidents of Stephenson county and was born in Rock Grove sixty years ago. She was married to John Candy thirty-five years ago, who survives as does also two sons and one daughter as follows: Rev. Frank Candy of Ohio, Walter who is in France, and Mrs. Hayes Mitchell of Dakota. She is also survived by two grandchildren, Melvin and Alice Mitchell and the following brothers and sister, Frank Gochnaur of Freeport, John of Bennett, Nebr., Harry of Flagg, Ill, and Miss Mary Gochnaur of Freeport.

The W.F.M.S. and Ladies Bible class of the Presbyterian church of Dakota, Ill., have passed the following resolutions of respect: Whereas, In view of the loss the foregoing have sustained by the decease of our friend and associate Mrs. Alma Candy – Therefore be it Resolved, That it is but a just tribute to the memory of the departed that we sincerely condole with the family of the deceased and commend them for consolation to Him who orders all things for the best. Also be it Resolved, that a copy of these resolutions be sent to the family of the deceased – Mrs. Eleanor Herman, Mrs. Mary Kurtz, Miss Jennie Foster. Committee.
